Earth Friendly Sock- This base is composed of 85% superwash merino and 15% biodegradable nylon. In a landfill, standard nylon takes decades to break down in landfill conditions but biodegradable nylon only takes about 5 years. This doesn’t mean that your handknit hat will fall apart while you’re wearing it because biodegradable nylon is just as durable and strong as regular nylon and won’t decompose until it is thrown away and exposed to landfill conditions. Earth Friendly Sock is one of my softest sock yarns (with a 19.5 micron count) and has the longest yardage of all of my yarns!

BRK Yak Sock-This base is totally different from your average sock yarn and it is completely great! The unique fiber blend makes a wonderfully textured and beautifully soft yarn, perfect for sweaters, socks, and all accessories. BRK Yak sock is not the typical white yarn base. The dark yak fiber blended with the creamy merino makes a richly toned color which adds great depth to the regular colorways. *The bare color is a lovely gray-ish tan so any colorways dyed on this base will look a bit different than the same colorway dyed on a white yarn base. Refer to the photos in the shop to get an idea of how gorgeous this base truly is!

Furthermore, each colorway is completely unique and non-repeatable! I save any extra dye that I have after dyeing my regular colorways and use the remnants to dye these gorgeous skeins of locally made yarn! Not only does this yarn save on waste, it also supports local businesses! Did I mention that Local Worsted has more yardage and weight than the average skein of worsted weight yarn?

Polwarth Fingering- Did you know that the Polwarth sheep breed is an old breed combining 75% merino sheep and 25% lincoln sheep? Polwarth yarn is similar to merino but the staple length of the fibers is longer and it has a lovely drape, great lustre, and a nice sheen. It is said to be the ideal yarn for hand knitting.

The Dyeing Process: All yarn is rinsed in warm water to remove any excess dye and then soaked in a bath of lanolin-enriched Lavender Eucalan to condition the fibers so the yarn comes to you soft and smooth!

Hand Dyed Yarn is beautifully imperfect. Colors may appear slightly different due to the nature of the dyeing process.

A note about non-superwash wool: Colorways may appear slightly different with a non-superwash wool fiber base. Speckles and colors could possibly be more muted.

Yarn Care:

Your hand knits will benefit most from gentle hand washing in cool water with a mild detergent and laying flat to dry. However, superwash yarns may be washed in the washing machine but I would recommend washing them alone or with other hand knits and laying them flat to dry. Yarn may bleed a little after the first wash but don’t panic! This is completely normal with hand dyed yarns.
